From briefly listening and reading over the lyrics it has become clear to me that the song is about a girl which could be a friend a partner or have some other emotional attachment too. Before making my music video it is vital that I understand the meaning behind the song so that the lyrics link to the visuals which is a key principal in Andrew Goodwins theory. To do this I have printed of my artist's lyrics for my chosen song and have then annotated them with what I think that they mean which shall hopefully give me some ideas and inspiration for my video aswell as a clear understanding. I have then copied and pasted the lyrics onto a word document and have then added my annotations which I can use as a reference point throughout the production of my music video.
Analysis of Lyrics
After analysing the lyrics to the song 'The Boat' by Benjamin Francis Leftwich I have decided that the meaning behind the song is definatly about a girl that he was in a relationship that has either ended or is going through troubles. Throughout the song it highlights how there is distance between them whether that is literally or metaphorically and how he can't seem to reach her which is both sad and frustrating for him as he is clearly very fond of her.
